About this artwork
The ordinary domestic interior is interrupted by the presence of an oversized apple, cut in half and already in decline. The setting feels warm, familiar, even comforting, yet the fruit, usually celebrated as a symbol of abundance and vitality, reveals a disquieting truth: rot begins from within.
The painting plays on the tension between surface and substance. A home may appear calm and orderly, yet beneath it there may be secrets, disappointments,… or corruption slowly eating away. The apple becomes a symbol for the things we trust - relationships, institutions, ideals - that can sour at the core despite their glossy exterior.
It’s about the human condition: the inevitable erosion of innocence, the fragility of what we build, and the uncomfortable reality that decline is always present, even in moments of light and beauty.
