About this artwork
The new series of paintings is about “exoticism,” inspired by my trip to Brazil. I ask myself the question: what does that feeling of the strange, the new, the other, do to me?
In Recife, I practiced yoga with a few Brazilians, which taught me more about how to become aware of the energy flows in my body, partly thanks to breathing exercises. I discovered that I had been practicing a certain form of yoga my entire life, without knowing it. This… energy I wanted to paint, the experiences from other exotic cultures, had always been my focus, but now all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. I have now literally experienced the energy flows (chakras) in my own body. This teaching of the ancient chakras felt so familiar to me that it seemed as if I had been applying them unconsciously for years. The beautiful colors of Brazil have now been translated onto the canvas into the emotion of inner consciousness. My curiosity has been piqued.
