This piece is created on rough torn canvas.
Mel's love of working on paper inspired creating work on torn canvas. She loves the option of folding and bending the canvas while forcing the paint to move along the surface in a unique style. Unlike paper, canvas is more forgiving to this work style of manipulating the surface. There is a great deal of texture and depth created by the layers of collaged canvas. They can be framed just like paper, but… without the glare of protective glass.
The mediums used is a combination of acrylic paint, gouache, and soft pastel.

Mel Rea is a prizewinning American painter who has exhibited her work nationally. Drawing from Mother Nature as a constant source of inspiration, as well as her memories of her grandfather's apiary farm, she paints with molten beeswax to compose minimalist works that display elegant, clean lines, a serene sense of luminosity and a soft satin finish.
