About this artwork
The painting "Rest Room" presents a composition in which the viewer's gaze is immediately drawn to the central blue area of the image. A deep blue center surrounded by a chaotic and unsorted environment.
Around the calm blue, which acts like a shield against the stressful everyday life, gray and dark tones dominate, creating a feeling of disorder and hectic activity through strong brushstrokes – noise, distractions and the multitude of demands that… bombard us.
In the blue area, the viewer finds a space of silence and contemplation, a familiar retreat amidst the chaos.
Michael Lerche uses acrylic paint, ink, varnishes, metal wire, wood, and various other materials, drawing on his experience as an industrial and furniture designer. His works are characterized by a reduced palette, serene clarity, and intriguing surface textures, in which he innovatively combines painting, sculpture, and graphic art. He masterfully portrays themes such as transience and nature's resilience, creating an inspiring and contemplative atmosphere that encourages reflection and instills confidence.
