About this artwork
I saw this lobsterman a few years ago, sauntering down Widgery Wharf in Portland, Maine. He walked with an attitude, and I liked everything about him including his long hair, yellow overalls, and a tank top showing his muscular shoulders. The title of the piece comes from the stylized skull on his tank top. The skull is the logo of the Misfits, a 1970's era punk rock band. I really felt that this guy could be a pirate or buccaneer. Although… I typically place the figures that I paint in scenes, for this painting, I chose to leave the background orange. There is something about this background color that really focuses the eye on the figure.
« I am drawn to art that gives me a glimpse of what life was like in the past. I strive to do the same for those viewing in the future. »
Michael Maron is an experienced artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally.
