About this artwork
I saw this scene looking offshore from Customs House Wharf in Portland. I really liked how the dog seemed to be enjoying himself, standing on the bow of the lobster boat. He seemed so free and so in charge, hence the title of the painting, "The Commander." I intentionally used a limited palette and liked how the shape of the dog contrasted with those of the boat and the waves. The painting is framed with a silver floater frame with black edges.
