About this artwork
This is an image inspired by Andy Warhol's portrait of Liz Taylor. This is a reinterpretation of Betancourt executed with spots and freer lines than the original of the Pop artist.
This work is woven as if with an interweaving of lines, with the aspergeus method, which the artist has been weaving on the canvas, turned on the floor, until he manages to reconstruct the portrait of the actress. In this work, Warhol's very own colors are fused with… the technical procedure that the artist experimented when working on his Pictorial Art series (2005-6), inspired by Renaissance cartoonists, although rearmed with a free, calligraphic line, inherited from action painting. . Otherwise, the woman's face is very expressive and highly dynamic, achieved through stringing together the various lines. This work is currently exhibited, temporarily, at the Museum of America, in Madrid.

« I live trying to recover, permanently, the world of childhood, of dreams, of fantastic visions, through my own pictorial perception. »
Miguel Betancourt is an experienced painter from Ecuador. The central themes of his work are Ecuadorian landscapes, trees, architecture, the Andes and their colors as well as the dancers who live in this region of the country. Betancourt’s paintings oscillate between figuration and what is called the abstract, between geometric structures and an expressionist chaos.
