About this artwork
In Petite Reine, I wanted to tell the silent story of a child who possesses a natural nobility, made of gentleness, pride, and presence. The little girl I depict stands upright, her gaze calm, holding in her arms a small white dog that seems to entrust her with its entire inner world.
Together, they form a tender duo, an intimate territory where each watches over the other.
The gold background creates a luminous and precious atmosphere, like a… royal halo enveloping the duo. Yet, I deliberately chose to leave traces of the original magenta background visible around their heads: a vibrant, almost pulsating red that surfaces beneath the gold. This visible magenta suggests the vital energy, the raw emotion, and the story of the canvas itself, which I didn't want to conceal. It acts as a subtle aura, a reminder of the initial instinct and gesture.
