About this artwork
In this work, I engage with the visual language of Vincent van Gogh and understand it as a free, contemporary homage. I take characteristic elements such as sunflowers and spiral lines, reminiscent of wind, movement, and inner turmoil, and translate them into my own visual language.
The swirling forms represent emotional dynamism and vitality, while the sunflowers symbolize light, hope, and the connection between humanity and nature. Bold colors… and strong contrasts deliberately amplify the emotional impact. The central face appears mask-like and archetypal – a bridge between the inner world and outer perception.
This work is intended for collectors and art lovers who appreciate an expressive, emotional visual language, feel a connection to art history, and at the same time prefer contemporary, personal interpretations.
Nata Statzner is a German painter of Ukrainian descent who has lived in Germany for over two decades and blends the cultural influences of her heritage into a distinctive visual language. She utilizes Cubist fragmentation, minimalist lines, and symbolism from Tripolye culture and Cycladic art to render mythical motifs and faces in an archaic and timeless way. Her works open up quiet spaces for self-reflection and speak of identity, rootedness, and the longing for belonging—conveying a profound sense of inner connection and the power of universal myths.
