About this artwork
This work is not about revolution or open struggle. It is about dignity that must be protected. A dignity that does not need to prove its strength, yet refuses to be broken. A dignity whose loss would mean losing oneself. And about the strength of spirit that lifts dignity like a flag above everything else.
Here, color layers build up like lived experience and generational memory, like echoes of resistance and perseverance that gather force over… time. It is a state of standing with your head held high, grounded in where you come from, aware of your inner strength, and faithful to your core values.
This painting is about unbroken resilience and about the right to remain, to exist, and to live with pride.
Natalia Shutiak is a Ukrainian abstract artist living and working in Chicago. She holds a Master’s degree in Art Education and has over twenty years of professional experience in visual communication and creative practice. Since relocating to the United States, she has fully devoted herself to painting.
Working primarily with oil and acrylic on canvas, she approaches abstraction as a way of staying honest with herself. Her paintings emerge from an attentive listening to inner emotional states shaped by change, uncertainty, and personal transformation. Through color, gesture, and texture, she traces these internal shifts until they find their own form on the surface.
Her work often explores the fragile boundary between what is revealed and what remains hidden, creating space for quiet reflection and an intimate dialogue with the viewer. Her paintings are held in private collections in Ukraine, Europe, and the United States.
