About this artwork
This painting grew out of my fascination with the universe we carry within ourselves. While working with gold and deep black tones, I was thinking about the quiet dialogue between inner consciousness and something much larger, yet deeply personal. The abstract, celestial forms emerged intuitively, like fragments of a private cosmos. For me, the gold is not decoration; it represents light, awareness, and moments of clarity that appear even in darkness.…
The black holds depth and mystery, allowing the light to breathe. This work is an invitation to pause and feel that inner universe - subtle, expansive and alive - and to connect with it in your own way.

Nena Lang is an award-winning contemporary abstract artist based in Vienna, Austria. Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, she works in a refined mixed-media abstract expressionist style, creating layered compositions that explore movement, memory and transformation. Her paintings are defined by rich textures, atmospheric color fields, and a balance between intuitive gesture and structural clarity.
With a background in theatre and cultural history, Lang approaches abstraction as both an emotional and architectural space. Before fully dedicating herself to painting, she worked in academic and cultural research, a foundation that continues to inform the symbolic depth of her work. She works with acrylics, pigments, mixed media and gold leaf, using palette knives and rulers to build tactile, layered surfaces. Circular forms and flowing structures recur throughout her work, evoking inner landscapes and quiet geometries.
