About this artwork
The painting is the result of numerous revisions to a preparatory collage combining women posing for a photo and flowers at night. The addition of the gate seemed to complete the image as its vertical sections echo the legs of the female figures. When enough of these formal echoes started to work without compromising the painting's mystery, the artist felt the it was complete.
