About this artwork
This work forms part of my architectural explorations, in which sculptural textures, craquelé and gold leaf are combined to express depth, transition and resilience.
Open doors function as a symbolic threshold, serving as a visual metaphor for perspective, agency and forward movement. They mark a moment of passage, where orientation shifts and possibility becomes tangible.
The craquelé structure refers to the imperfect and fractured nature of life… itself, while the golden seam introduces a counterbalance of trust and inner strength. Together, these elements create a material dialogue between vulnerability and stability.
The composition invites reflection on the moment when clarity overtakes emotion, a point of alignment that generates direction rather than hesitation. The Invitation stands independently within my portfolio and reflects my ongoing focus on layered storytelling, material tactility and symbolic clarity.
I spent twenty years building a business. Then, in the stillness that followed, I began to paint.
My work is rooted in Christian faith, not as a theme, but as a foundation. I believe that brokenness is not the end of a story. It is where the most honest part begins.
The craquelure in my paintings is not manufactured. It grows. I build up layers until they fracture, organically, unpredictably, and then I paint each crack by hand with Lascaux gold paint. One by one. No two surfaces are ever the same.
Gold is not decoration. It is the light that enters through the broken places.
