A monumental and highly distinctive work where surrender gives way to glory, shaped through an exceptional convergence of materials and techniques.
Where Surrender Turns to Glory is a painting of 200 × 100 cm, conceived as a biblical landscape and inspired by the cantata Olivet to Calvary. From the Mount of Olives to the place of the tomb, the composition unfolds as an inner passage where surrender becomes a movement toward light.
At its center,… a vertical line of gold cuts through the fracture and continues beyond it, marking the place where brokenness is met and transformed.
Olive trees, fragments of Bible text and stones gathered at the foot of Table Mountain are integrated into the surface in sculptural relief, rising from within through building, revealing and drawing into the craquelé itself.
Multiple layers and techniques converge, bringing together fracture, matter and light in a quiet powerful expression of presence, surrender and redemption

I spent twenty years building a business. Then, in the stillness that followed, I began to paint.
My work is rooted in Christian faith, not as a theme, but as a foundation. I believe that brokenness is not the end of a story. It is where the most honest part begins.
The craquelure in my paintings is not manufactured. It grows. I build up layers until they fracture, organically, unpredictably, and then I paint each crack by hand with Lascaux gold paint. One by one. No two surfaces are ever the same.
Gold is not decoration. It is the light that enters through the broken places.
