About this artwork
Beneath the Illusion, Peace reflects an exploration of the individual’s inner world and the universal search for inner peace. I use a variety of materials, sand, acrylic, and paper, to express both the material and the immaterial, in an attempt to grasp the invisible aspects of the mind that lie hidden beneath the outer layers visible to the world.
I use sand as a symbol of the material and the transient; its rough texture creates a visual barrier… behind which deeper emotions reside. The texture of the sand adds a tactile dimension, reminding us of the fragile boundaries between what we present to the world and what we feel within.
Acrylic paints emphasize the contrasts between external and internal states. The black dots (paper) are a key element, they represent an illusion that we must become aware of, prompting us to question what lies beneath the surface, beneath illusion and appearance.
Despite its small scale, the work intensifies a feeling of intimacy and introspection.
