About this artwork
Piccinelli is a Swiss, originally from northern Italy. He is sensitive to Italian culture and the city of Milan holds a special place in his heart. This composition on paper is a declaration of love for the complexity and softness of the city.
The superimposed geometric shapes and typography evoke the architecture and signage of the city. The trace at the bottom of the collage disturbs the structure.
Coming from the organic or industrial world,… its substances mixed with chromatic values, in a symbiosis where the artist-alchemist regenerated and metamorphosed these elements, giving them new life. Bag, wood, iron, plastic, Celotex: with Burri, materials used in daily life or in the field of sculpture were transformed into full-fledged painting; objects supposed to be used in industry were dressed in a new aura.

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
