About this artwork
The work does not depict a literal sea scene, but captures the essence of a maritime voyage through abstraction. The different layers and textures symbolize the depths of the ocean, the waves, and the movement of the ship.
The dominant blue, with its varying shades, evokes the sea. The splashes and blotches of paint represent the foam, sea spray, and turbulent energy of the ocean. The white areas and calmer textures symbolize moments of serenity… during the journey.
I composed a balance between calm and more dynamic elements, reflecting the ups and downs of a sea voyage.

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
