About this artwork
I wanted to describe it like this: immersed in a suspended, almost liquid atmosphere, where the Duomo is not just architecture but a living presence. The gold-green-blue background envelops everything like a luminous fog, the kind we Milanese know so well, which muffles the noise and makes the city more intimate.
The spires emerge in relief, material, almost worn by time but still proud. They're not perfect, they're not photographic: they're felt.… They are memory. They are skin.
And then there she is, at the top. The Madonnina. Slender, essential, luminous. She doesn't dominate: she protects. She is a point of balance, a silent promise above the constant hustle and bustle of the city.
I worked to make the material speak, to make the light rest on the surfaces and vibrate. So that Milan would not only be seen, but felt.
Patrizia Cognetti uses material painting as her preferred medium, developing her training independently and instinctively, far from academic norms.
His technique is based on layers of dense color, enriched with bright hues and gold and silver inserts, which capture the light and make each work vibrant and ever-changing.
With a sensorial and emotional style, his works evoke depth, intimacy and a profound sense of inner recognition.
