About this artwork
This piece came together through layering and interruption rather than a fixed plan. I worked across the surface, allowing forms to build, break, and intersect until a structure began to emerge.
What stands out to me now is how everything seems to meet at once. Lines cross, shapes press into each other, and areas that feel separate begin to connect depending on how it’s viewed. The composition shifts with distance and light, revealing different points… of tension and balance.
There is an underlying framework, but it isn’t rigid. It holds movement, adjustment, and the accumulation of decisions made in the moment.
This work is part of my Internal Architecture series, within Structural Memory—where structure exists, but what moves through it continues to change.

Paul Brandwein Sr. is a self-taught painter whose medium is primarily layered, textured acrylic on canvas, shaped by a background of personal transformation after a traumatic brain injury.
