In this piece, I bridge the laws of quantum mechanics and the fluid, chaotic beauty of nature. The piece is dynamic. It visually and experientially translates the complex concept of particle-wave duality and explores how energy manifests in our physical world through an interplay of inked line-work, gold leaf, and optical resin elements.
The concentric circles reference both tree rings and the wave nature of light and matter. A series of transparent… cones erupt from the surface. When viewed from the side, these cones reveal hidden "spectral" colours, capturing and bending light. The vertical gold leaf band intersects the composition represents the moment where potentiality becomes reality.
As the viewer moves, the glass cones distort the underlying black lines, mimicking the uncertainty and constant motion of subatomic particles. It is a playful, invitation to look closer at the "inner light" that exists within all matter.
Peta Jacobs is a visual artist with a background in textiles, whose art unfolds through innovative mixed-media and kinetic installations and artworks. Her technique combines abstract geometric forms and post-digital optics, using optical materials from scientific experiments to create works that shift and reconfigure as the viewer moves. She infuses her art with metaphysical investigations into duality, interconnectedness, and uncertainty, inviting viewers into playful yet profound encounters that evoke a sense of wonder at the intrinsic wholeness of reality.
