This multidimensional artwork, a piece from the Quantum Connections series, challenges the viewer’s perspective, transforming static lines into a dynamic experience of light and form. It explores the intersection of geometry, optics, and perception.
A rigorous composition of monochrome geometric patterns, parallel lines and nested triangles create a sense of architectural space.
To this, I introduce quantum variables (refraction, magnification,… and chromatic aberration) by overlaying transparent, optical cones that act as lenses, distorting the rigid black-and-white background into fluid, swirling patterns that change as you move around the piece. Although the image is strictly grayscale, the interiors of the cones split the light, casting delicate, rainbow-hued spectral flares across the composition, inviting the viewer to explore the surface from multiple angles.
Peta Jacobs is a visual artist with a background in textiles, whose art unfolds through innovative mixed-media and kinetic installations and artworks. Her technique combines abstract geometric forms and post-digital optics, using optical materials from scientific experiments to create works that shift and reconfigure as the viewer moves. She infuses her art with metaphysical investigations into duality, interconnectedness, and uncertainty, inviting viewers into playful yet profound encounters that evoke a sense of wonder at the intrinsic wholeness of reality.
