About this artwork
Attracted by the light, the viewer's gaze follows the steps upwards. This all-encompassing light emanates from a narrowing corridor that leads into the interior of a lit room in the background. Almost golden, it is reflected by the steps and walls and makes the darkness in the foreground glow warmly. But the enchanting light does not illuminate where the path leads. It dazzles, forcing the viewer to look away and look back. Roughly hewn, rough walls,…
mighty blocks of stone, beams lying around - no place to linger. But despite the confusion, the interplay of the elements space, light, materials, color is touchingly original, trustworthy, solid and valuable. The way up suddenly appears in a different light. The question of where my right path leads gives way to the urgent concern to pause and clarify where I come from before continuing.
