About this artwork
The picture "Light - the tenderness of space I" confronts the viewer with a place that neither reveals where it is nor which space it outlines. Basement, cellar? passage? staircase?
The viewer stands in a place of transition that, despite its darkness, is bathed in a soft light. He has to decide which direction to take, which corridor to follow, which staircase to climb. Or does he follow the warm light that illuminates a narrow passage? The need… to choose is in the air. Numerous layers of paint with a translucent effect in harmonious colors give the composition a calm balance.
With this work, Peter Knauer generally refers to the fact that almost every life situation challenges people to decide which paths or goals to follow.
