About this artwork
Peter Knauer creates a poetic pictorial space with blurred and clear forms, winding and straight paths with many glazing layers of paint in iridescent reddish-brown tones to warm gold tones and glaring light on the canvas. From many possibilities, a sweeping staircase leading upwards in the middle of the picture catches the eye. It is immersed in a warm, bright light, sometimes almost glaringly outshined. Following her is a must, it is "obvious"…
in the truest sense of the word. But what about the other paths that lie to the right and left of the stairs?
On the left side of the picture they can only be seen in outline. On the right, entrances in niches on different levels allow a mysterious way up that is not fully visible.
