About this artwork
Inspired by a dream, Petra Knauer's work takes us to the top of a mountain in the middle of the Peruvian Andes, to the ancient city of Machu Picchu.
Using earthy materials such as pigments, ash, sand, stone powder and acrylic, she creates an abstract world of stone images with a rough, tactile surface in soft pastel colors. She does without strong contrasts. She hints, awakens premonitions and leaves it to the expressiveness of the color and the… material to artistically put her vision of this magical place into the picture.
The viewer is tempted to feel the surface of the canvas with his eyes, to enliven it with his imagination and to find traces of life in the stones and walls that endure over time.
