About this artwork
This was a commission arranged by DegreeArt as a gift from a client to her husband on his fortieth birthday. The narrative represents the two worlds of their home in Kinsale, Ireland, and their holiday home in Skiathos, Greece.
The background setting is an abstract blending of the Kinsale and Skiathos landscapes, weaved together as a dreamscape in which the two worlds harmoniously meet. The shifts in colour that represent the seasonal changes is… a uniting of these two worlds together. The client also wanted the symbols that represented their family crests, and the names of their children to be incorporated into the panorama, displayed as regalia on the three boats.
The use of the floating balls in the water is a subtle reference to the music video of ‘Heartbeats’ by Jose Gonzales, which depicts bouncing balls rolling down the streets of San Francisco.
« I express the truest version of myself as I was, am, and will be in my work. »
