About this artwork

This piece was the first of two paintings which were commissioned by Degree Art for the Hong Kong branch of HSBC.

The bank wanted two pieces that celebrated Pride, and which were symbolic of it's support of LGBTQ relations. They commissioned me to represent the issue using photographs from the 2019 Pride parade in Taiwan, which was held in celebration of the passing of a bill to legalise same sex marriages.

For this piece I wanted the Pride flag… to be the dominant symbol, and for the colours to burst out like positive energy, and a sign of society moving forward. The message of love, joy and progress cemented with the appearance of a sunlit heart on the flag bearers phone.
