The title is deliberately ambiguous and non-descriptive. It is an abstract sculpture that is not pegged to any particular association, leaving the onlooker to engage their own imagination and add a personal interpretation to complete the work and make it unique to them.
There are two distinct sides to the bronze sculpture which can be freely turned in its slate composite base; the whole 180 degrees to show a full face or at any angle in between… which pleases the onlooker. On the light turquoise blue face the bronze line and aperture show the natural material which is also polished on the edge of the dark blue face.
Any sculpture has one life in the hands of the artist and a completely new life in the eyes and mind of the collector.
Anphalos III carries an aura of tranquillity and a presence that makes it a focal point to enliven both the space it occupies whilst at the same time forming a personal bond and friendship with the owner.
« Inspired by events of the natural world, I put all of myself into making sculptures which I hope strike a chord and evoke emotion in those who encounter them. »
Philip Hearsey is an experienced British sculptor who has exhibited his work throughout the UK. Rather than engaging in specific theories, he is driven by an instinctive urge to progress at his own pace and focus on making things. He turns observations and visualizations into 3-dimensional realities, harnessing his specialty in sandcasting to make sculptures that engage the quality of bronze as a noble material in its own right. Hearsey's pieces showcase smart simplicity, intriguing shapes and a tactile touch.
