About this artwork
This glass and polyepoxide fabric imposes itself and completely absorbs us. In a fraction of a second, the gaze is caught by the flat areas of pure color, floating on an expanse of limpid water, without it being possible to clearly identify the visual emotion that emerges from the surface assembly, created by the artist.
One thus obtains, after complete reticulation, a rough semi-translucent surface, with very interesting optical properties, at… the same time of absorption and reflection of the light.
The limits of the tinted surfaces are imprecise, in fact, when the coloring enamel is applied, it migrates into the thickness of the cullet, crawling by capillarity between the glass shards.
The light is captured more by the retina of the viewer and opens a monumental door to the abstract space in which Philippe Fares evolves.
Philippe Fares is a contemporary French artist whose career has been profoundly shaped by the diversity of cultures and the interaction of art and science. His unique perspective, sharpened by a childhood spent in sub-Saharan Africa, is a testament to his early exposure to the art world, particularly to the influence of primitive arts. Returning to France at the age of 16, Philippe embarked on a path that allowed him to cultivate his understanding of Western arts while pursuing scientific studies.
Philippe Fares’ artworks are meticulously constructed using scientific methods and careful planning. His creations often feature a recurring tiling pattern, a meticulously balanced play with chance. This synthesis of meticulous design and the unpredictability of chance gives his works a dynamic and intriguing quality.
