About this artwork
The figures appear united yet distant: one (perhaps Orpheus) is slightly turned away, while the other (Eurydice) appears on the verge of disappearing. This suspended moment captures the tragic moment of the myth, when Orpheus, giving in to the desire to look at his beloved, loses her forever. The thick, vibrant paint emphasizes the physicality of pain, but also the fragility of existence.

« If we assign a place to art by designating it a space in which it must act, then we run the risk of rendering it harmless. Art must be subversive. -Anselm Kiefer »
