In French, the phrase "Pilier de bar" translates to "barfly" or "regular at the bar," someone who spends much of their time anchored to the social space of a bar.
In this artwork, the phrase takes on a hauntingly literal meaning. The bar stools, now corroded and overrun by moss, become the only pillars left in this abandoned space, bearing witness to a past life that has long since vanished.
Captured in the ruins of a communist-era school in Croatia,… the scene is a striking juxtaposition of decay and memory. The covered graffiti and discarded Coke bottles, symbols of a different era, starkly contrast with the dilapidated bar and its green moss-covered tiles, creating a dialogue between the past and present. These remnants tell a story of transformation, blurring the line between a social and knowledge hub and a silent, peaceful relic of history.
Vincent Lecoq, an explorer guided by the poetry of changing spaces, uses photography to share his curiosities. His art is nourished by urban metamorphoses, where the visible and the invisible mingle, to denounce exclusion and question our borders. His images, tinged with freedom, identity and social justice, reveal a harmony hidden behind apparent divisions.
