"Vultus V" is part of an experimental series that deconstructs the traditional painting process. The creative process begins with a classic painting or drawing on canvas, which is then photographed. The photograph is printed on paper and transferred with gesso to a final canvas, transforming the original painting and photograph into a unique transfer. A final touch of acrylic paint is the only real paint on the canvas.
This work was inspired by… the constant evolution and mutability of our lives. The fragmented and incomplete appearance of the portraits is intentional, symbolizing our perpetual state of change and growth. By using this medium and style, I aim to evoke a sense of reflection and introspection in viewers, encouraging them to contemplate their own journeys of transformation.
"Vultus V" is more than a portrait; It is a testament to the ever-changing nature of the human experience.
Raúl Lara is a Spanish artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, in the United States, Portugal, France, and the United Kingdom. He describes his art as a search for the representation of who we are in contrast to what others see, in comparison with what we know about ourselves. Lara's recent figurative compositions explore identify and portray the interior self, as well as the self that is shown to others and the world.
