About this artwork
You often refer to yourself as "I".
Of independence. Of individuality. But no "I" arises without a "we".
This work demonstrates the simultaneity of contradictory states:
Independence and belonging. Emerging and being integrated. Closeness and distance.
I have held entrepreneurial responsibility for many years.
There were moments when I didn't enjoy being an entrepreneur.
For example, when I had to tell an employee:
"Unfortunately, we have… to part ways."
Objectively, it was necessary.
On a human level, it was painful.
It becomes clear in such moments,
how essential belonging is for us.
How much we want to be part of a "we" – even if we understand ourselves as an "I".
In the picture, a figure is standing in the foreground.
It acts autonomously.
But her presence only arises through the group behind her.
The dark upper room creates distance.
The red soil grounds us – it connects us.
Depth is created in between.
I'm not interested in the either-or.
I am interested in the self within the we.
My work arises from a fascination with contradictory states that exist simultaneously: Trust-distrust, freedom-order, reason-emotion, closeness-isolation, and much more. This perspective stems from 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and creative mind in my trade fair construction company, where responsibility, economics, structure and creative design and thinking were inextricably linked. In my works, I translate these tensions into images—decisively and openly to resonance. I capture the ineffable in images.
