If we were someone,
What if nobody was looking?
A single figure stands at the center of the picture.
Not clearly defined, more like a trace, a presence.
All around her: stares.
Hints of perception.
Perhaps observation. Perhaps projection.
In this work, I am interested in the question of whether we can even recognize ourselves independently of others.
How much of what we call "I" only comes about through the people who look at us, judge… us, reflect us back to us, or remind us of us?
We live in a time where visibility seems to be becoming increasingly important.
It has never been easier to be seen.
And perhaps at the same time, it has never been so difficult to truly stay true to oneself.
The figure therefore appears both visible and dissolved at the same time.
Present and lost.
Seemingly incompatible states exist simultaneously within us.
That's what defines us. That's what I paint.

My work arises from a fascination with ambivalence.
Trust-distrust, freedom-order, reason-emotion, closeness-isolation and much more, all at the same time.
This perspective stems from 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and creative mind in my trade fair construction company, where responsibility, economics, structure and creative design and thinking were inextricably linked.
In my works I translated these tensions into images - decisively and openly to resonance.
I paint lived ambivalences.
