About this artwork
She's sitting on a bench, reading. Or at least, that's how it seems.
While her face and the book remain clearly recognizable, the rest of her form begins to dissolve. The boundaries between body, light, and surroundings blur. Tree trunks pierce the figure, veils of color overlay the space. What was background becomes part of the person. What was person becomes part of the surroundings.
The work explores a state many people are familiar with:… complete immersion in a thought, a book, or a memory. One is physically present – and simultaneously far away.
The reader shows no transition from one state to another. Both exist simultaneously: presence and absence, reality and imagination, identity and dissolution.
This creates a picture of the human capacity to be in several places at once – in space and in one's own thoughts.
Between presence and absence.
I paint the space in between.

Trust-distrust, freedom-order, reason-emotion, closeness-isolation, and much more.
I am interested in the space before the answer.
Where contradictory poles exist simultaneously and where questions arise.
Questions have always been a path of discovery and a source of strength for me.
Perhaps we don't always need to know immediately which side is the right one.
Perhaps it is precisely this space of possibility that I want to bring into our lives with my pictures.
This perspective stems from 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and creative mind in my trade fair construction company, where responsibility, economics, structure and creative design and thinking were inextricably linked.
The space in between was and is my motivation, my source of strength.
