Red Violet was painted plein air as Artist in Residence at Fruitlands Museum, Harvard, MA, 2014.
“Red Violet is an abstract painting completed as a violet work from the Color Wheel Series. It contains swipes of teal, pale yellow and blue/green placed off center, and is activated by lines/marks creating direction and movement. The red color field is made vibrant with overlays of pink violet, with the blues/greens circulating around the perimeter… of the canvas. Some colors recede while others appear to float above the surface. The painting appears as an aerial view of the sky or the ocean.
In the recent development of my paintings, canvases are trending towards larger surfaces of singular color fields, offset/activated with an abrasion of a contrasting colors/ and or marks.

As a landscape architect by profession and a painter by passion, I create large-scale, abstract plein-air canvases rooted in the coastlines of Rhode Island and the vineyards of Tuscany. My work is an exploration of nature and the intrinsic act of painting. By manipulating color, line, and form, I seek order and meaning within pure and landscape-driven abstraction.
My studio practice is fueled by aerial perspectives, spontaneous accidents, and deliberate risk-taking. Recent residencies from Nantucket to Wyoming have deeply infused my work with the unique light and culture of dramatically different environments. When I am not painting or teaching at the Providence Art Club, Danforth Museum, and New Art Center, I find inspiration in world travel, classical music, and the outdoors.
The award-winning work I create is represented by Saatchi Art, Singulart, and Gallery Twist, and is held in private and public collections across the US and Europe.
