About this artwork
This piece focuses on the character of Viola from the play “Twelth Night” by William Shakespeare and her impact on my own path. The eight figures overlapping represent the growth away and towards a new version of myself. A chameleon of sorts the character of Viola and I share the idea of extending into my new self. The figure of Viola is moving through the experience of searching for love, independence, a place to call her own, and an attempt to… not to lose herself in the process. The eight figures represent the eight places that I have lived that made an impact on my growth away and towards a forever evolving version of myself. The lines in the background represent experiences in each place and the blending of differences. The heartbeats are what connect us all, an equal element we as humans all share no matter our experiences or where we call home. The base of the figure’s legs are turning into the roots of a tree that ground each experience as they form into memories.
