About this artwork
In this piece, I poured my emotions into vibrant oil pastels, blending abstract shapes and bold geometry. The rich, warm hues evoke a dynamic energy, like a dance of chaos and harmony. It's a symbolic journey through inner strength and transformation, inviting you to feel the passion and resilience I channelled.
Mixed State is a powerful abstract pastel drawing that serves as the direct, chaotic sequel to State 1. This intensely expressive work… maps the volatile collision of mania and depression occurring simultaneously within a psychiatric mixed episode.

Robella is a bold multi-media abstract artist from post-apartheid South Africa, currently based in Paris, with a background in theatre, dance, and visual art. She employs mixed media, incorporating natural fibers like wool and combining painting with movement, glue, and ink to create rich textures. Her style examines intersections of collective and personal history within feminist frameworks, always challenging perceptions. Her work vibrates with emotional honesty and a powerful urge to prompt reflection and essential conversations.
