State 1, Hypomania. This work was created just before the artist's episode transitioned into a "mixed state". The work shows the clarity she felt during this period that soon turned into a chaos. The abstract bird, which is later similarily depicted in "Mixed State" speaks to the commencement of the journey through this period of her life.
State 1 is a poignant, original pastel abstract drawing measuring 41.91 x 29.7 cm that offers a rare,… visceral glimpse into the psychological architecture of neurodivergence. Created on the precipice of a psychiatric shift, this piece documents the fleeting clarity of a hypomanic episode immediately before transitioning into a turbulent "mixed state."
The composition features an abstract bird motif, serving as a central metaphor for the commencement of a complex psychological journey. This symbolic figure anchors the viewer, contrasting the initial lucidity of the episode with the underlying, gathering chaos.
