About this artwork
This is a poor man's tribute to Mark Rothko, a profoundly honest and truthful painter and a deep thinker. It consists of three panels of acrylic washes painted on heavy watercolor paper. The paper panels are mounted on black-painted Masonite which is, in turn, fastened by screws to a frame made of warped wood, which like the Masonite, was reclaimed from a construction site that I worked on. Though I have fallen far short of it, my goal was to create,…
from common and simple elements an eloquent visual object that evokes a feeling of peace and stimulates thoughtful reflection. The warped wooden frame must be fastened to a wall with screws. Imperfection is an important aspect of art.

Self-taught and based in Austin, Texas, he predominantly uses plastic arts, painting, string and collage to bring depth and texture to his works. His technique entails post-impressionistic constructivist art, utilizing the dadaist concept of blending unrelated elements and creating familiar yet freshly interpreted images. His work embraces the enthralling dynamics between randomness and form, aiming to give ordinary viewers opportunities for interpretation, emotional nourishment and even joy. His complete portfolio circa 1990 - Present can be viewed at https://ronaldhicks.crevado.com/.
