Stitch by Stitch holds deep meaning, inspired by the quiet strength that comes with healing and growth. I created it using cardboard, tissue paper, watercolour paper, glass beads, golden glitter, inks, oil pastel, and thread, all chosen to bring texture, depth, and a sense of movement to the work.
Framed in a way that makes it seem to float, the piece interacts with light and shadow, revealing new details as you look closer. I wanted it to feel… like a journey, each stitch representing resilience, each layer reflecting the beauty of perseverance.
We mend, we rebuild, we transform, step by step, stitch by stitch. Just like in life, the smallest repairs often carry the most meaning. My hope is that this artwork speaks to you, inviting you to find your own reflections within it.
Saskia van Drunen (1971) is a Dutch artist whose process reveals an artist deeply engaged in the exploration of the inner emotional lives of her subjects, often capturing the quiet, vulnerable moments of women in a way that feels both personal and universal. Her technique combines careful figurative detail with abstracted, textured elements, creating a sense of timelessness and depth that resonates with viewers on an intimate level. Through her thoughtful use of colour, shape, and texture, she not only portrays beauty but also evokes the complexity of personal introspection, inviting viewers to find their own reflections within her work.
Saskia’s work is a burst of life and energy, and it invites the viewer to discover and connect with their own emotions.
