I painted Sandy Beach on a warm summer day in the Slocan Valley, letting the landscape move through me rather than trying to capture it exactly as it was. The mountains softened into layered forms, the water became a place of stillness and reflection, and the sky held that quiet, luminous quality I associate with long afternoons by the river.
