‘Moose Maple” or “Striped Maple” is an understory tree in the forests near me. Their leaves are shaped like a ducks foot and double the size of my hands. Their bark is dark green with a lime green stripe. When the bark is wet, the lime green becomes iridescent. Some foresters would call them a weed, but I’m especially fond of them.
Sheila McGregor is a painter with a background in acrylics, printmaking, fibre arts, and design, honed through dedicated study, residencies, and mentorship under Jane Bonnell. She paints en plein air and in the studio, using gestural sketches with pre-mixed complimentary palettes for spontaneity, and richly layered studio works for luminosity. Her style fuses visual art with the language and rhythm of music, weaving nature’s grandeur and negative space rhythms into each piece. Sheila’s art radiates hope and beauty, offering viewers encouragement and comfort, especially for those navigating life’s challenges.
