About this artwork
"Perfect grace is not achieved through external adornment, but by allowing the basic material to come into its own, which gains beauty through the form that is given to it." This saying from the Chinese book of wisdom I Ching accompanied me - as so often - when I created this picture.
I chose marble powder and ash as the basic materials for this work. A few decorative elements made of colored pencil, acrylic and gold leaf add decorative cheerfulness… to the earthy work.
Sigrid Koller, a painter, uses media such as marble dust, ash, chalk, sand, and high-quality inks. In her work, she layers color and material to create depth and insights, inspired by aging buildings and peeling layers of paint. Her reduced color palette and frequent use of white evoke a sense of contemplation and stillness, suggesting a striving for reduction to the essential.
Sigrid Koller's paintings hang in, among other places, a law firm, a dental practice and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
