About this artwork
In this work, which is mainly done in marble white, my focus is on reduction, silence and contemplation. Once the marble background has been applied, details made of ink, pens and gold leaf follow intuitively, often serving as a point of orientation for the viewer in the picture. For me, marble represents solidity, gold represents brightness and light, white represents a colour that shows fullness in its gradations. By leaving the material largely… unchanged, it shows its essence and its inherent character and beauty. I want this picture to be a source of calm and inspiration in your home, a place where you can pause and take in the quiet elegance.
Sigrid Koller, a painter, uses media such as marble dust, ash, chalk, sand, and high-quality inks. In her work, she layers color and material to create depth and insights, inspired by aging buildings and peeling layers of paint. Her reduced color palette and frequent use of white evoke a sense of contemplation and stillness, suggesting a striving for reduction to the essential. Sigrid Koller's paintings hang in, among other places, a law firm, a dental practice and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
