About this artwork
This work shows wild, stormy seas and surf on a rocky coast. It is built on a base of marble powder. Numerous layers of earth-colored and white pigments give the image power and depth.
Sigrid Koller, a painter, uses media such as marble dust, ash, chalk, sand, and high-quality inks. In her work, she layers color and material to create depth and insights, inspired by aging buildings and peeling layers of paint. Her reduced color palette and frequent use of white evoke a sense of contemplation and stillness, suggesting a striving for reduction to the essential.
Sigrid Koller's paintings hang in, among other places, a law firm, a dental practice and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
