About this artwork
The title START represents the beginning, a starting point, a vital impulse, a first breath. In this work, I wanted to capture a moment of emotional birth: a face emerging from the chaos of color, a mask forming between instinctive gestures and free brushstrokes.
The face isn't just a subject, but a reflection of what's moving inside me: the energy, the confusion, the desire to express myself without filters. The eyes, subtle but intense, seem to… return their gaze to the viewer, as if to say, "You're here too, in this beginning."
I chose bright, contrasting colors: yellow for light and rebirth, blue for depth and thought, red for passion and movement. The brushstrokes are broken, nervous, yet fluid: they represent the constant dialogue between control and creative impulse.
START is my way of saying that everything begins here, a journey inside the expression and beyond the surface of the face.
Silvana Di Vora, a self-taught artist, uses watercolor, acrylic on canvas, and scrap materials to create works brimming with light and movement. She experiments with figurative and abstract art, using rapid brushstrokes and intense monochromes, highlighting the three-dimensionality and luminosity of unexpected details. Her works, often melancholic and dynamic, convey that even from darkness, the most intense light and vibrant color can emerge, instilling vitality and hope in the viewer.
