About this artwork
I created this work, “Superhero out of register”, as an explosion of visual memory and urban chaos.
I glued old comics that marked my childhood to the bottom and almost suffocated them under layers of paint, spray paint, and gestural marks, as if time and the city had scratched and rewritten them.
In the center, I've highlighted this out-of-sync superhero, with his angular face and distorted glasses, who seems to emerge from the panels but can… no longer fit within them: he's out of place, out of time, out of place. Around him, the graffiti, the acid greens, and the violent reds push and disturb him, while the large hashtag in the foreground recalls the rapid, superficial language of social media.
I chose a baroque golden frame precisely to create an ironic contrast: a precious and “serious” object that holds a noisy, pop, almost vandalic image.
Silvana Di Vora, a self-taught artist, uses watercolor, acrylic on canvas, and scrap materials to create works brimming with light and movement. She experiments with figurative and abstract art, using rapid brushstrokes and intense monochromes, highlighting the three-dimensionality and luminosity of unexpected details. Her works, often melancholic and dynamic, convey that even from darkness, the most intense light and vibrant color can emerge, instilling vitality and hope in the viewer.
