About this artwork
Sweet Fruit belongs to a series of works that appear in a poem I wrote entitled Night among Nights. It reflects a moment of intimacy between two lovers, who eat the sweet fruit of the passion they feel, therefore, there is a reference in the shapes of the painting to certain exotic fruits and their seeds and to sensual strokes and colors that could even remind us of the female vulva. The painting is intended to be a tribute to the joy of living and… enjoying, hence its dynamic rhythm and the use of curved lines to suggest voluptuousness.
It is very powerful and visually fluid and its presence completely transforms the room.
Dulce Fruto was selected in the ARTistas call of the University of Vigo, a project to highlight the work of women artists. The project was exhibited in various exhibition halls and museums such as MARCO in Vigo and the CGAC in Santiago de Compostela and its printed version reached museums such as the MoMA in New York.
Sonia Hernández, trained in dance, design and fine arts, expresses herself primarily through large-format acrylic paintings. She applies mixed techniques with oil and pastel paint, preparing the colors herself and giving texture to the canvas. Her works convey the naturalness of her emotions and sensations, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the contemplative feeling and enjoy the beauty and harmony of life.
