It comes as no surprise that many of us feel a degree of aversion to venomous creatures, such as the snakes, scorpions and spiders. This aversion however, does not seem to extend to the automotive industry, as some very popular cars have what one would think would be very unpopular namesakes.
Carroll Shelby credited a prophetic dream for giving him the infamous Cobra name- though… some have considered that story to be snake oil, at best. Tom Gale has stated that the Dodge Viper’s name was the result of a conversation with Giorgetto Giugiaro, and Carlo Abarth chose the scorpion for the Abarth emblem. Apparently, he was not inspired by its presence within the animal kingdom, but because his astrological sign was Scorpio.
